I’m in the midst of a dispute with a former landlord. He was in foreclosure and bankruptcy (at the same time!) and so of course I moved out of the property. As a result, he tried to sue me for breaking the lease, when in reality, as someone who has not made any mortgage payments in almost two years, and who had breached the lease in a variety of other ways, such as refusing to make required repairs to the property, he has no right to recover any funds for the balance of the broken lease. In fact, he violated so many provisions of the lease and the law that I could easily sue him for damages! But, alas, this person who has a long history of such behavior, including multiple bankruptcies, is again trying to get money he doesn’t deserve and isn’t entitled to.
